What is required of me as a Probationary Member:
All newly appointed members are required to complete a 1 year probationary
period. During this period Probationary members must attend a percentage of monthly
meetings (these meetings take place on the first Wednesday of every month), calls, and drills (drills are on every Monday evening). In addition
to these requirements, each member must also
complete the Basic Firefighter course. This course is offered several
times throughout the year and is at no cost to the applicant.
Once your probationary period is succesfully completed, you are taken off
probationary member status and are subject to a reduced set of requirements.
Interested Members FAQ's
I work at nights and cannot make meetings or drills. What do
I do?
Any person who is unable attend drills and meetings at night will have the
opportunity to make these up. We offer daytime and weekend drills for members
to attend. Basic Firefighter training classes are held on
weeknights, weekends, and some are even offered during the day.
Will I be responding to fires?
Yes. All new members are given a pager for notification and other equipment.
Although new members will not be permitted to enter a burning
building or assigned certain tasks, they are permitted to ride the apparatus to
calls. Members will be assigned duties at the scene depending on there ability
and their progress.
Will I have to go into a burning building?
No. All members are asked to do only what they are comfortable in doing. Many
members prefer to stay outside the building and assist with exterior
operations.
