June 6, 2006
On Wednesday, June 6th, while responding to an automatic
alarm on East Mombasha Road, the Monroe Fire Dept. was dispatched to a second
call in the district for a report of smoke in Apple Autobody. Upon
arrival, Chief Vini Tankasali established Command and advised units of a working
fire in the area of the paint booth. The building involved in fire is a
bow-truss construction building housing an autobody shop and several other
commercial stores. Heavy smoke and fire was showing from
the ceiling above the paint booth upon arrival. An aggressive
interior attack was made by Monroe firefighters to control the fire
prior to reaching the truss roof void spaces. The fire was
knocked down quickly and Monroe Units were back in service within approximately
2 hours. Monroe Command requested a FAST Team from Woodbury FD
to the scene and Lakeside FD to standby in Monroe's
quarters. Monroe FD was also assisted the Orange County Fire Investigation
Unit, and Monroe Police.
