Structure Fire 27 Gitzelberger Blvd.

On Friday July 16th at approximately 9:00 am, the Monroe Fire Dept. was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 27 Gitzelberger Blvd. in the Village of Kiryas Joel. First arriving units encountered a 3 story occupied dwelling with heavy fire and smoke conditions. The fire had already gained major headway in the building. An aggressive interior attack was made by firefighters, but units were forced out when the fire began burning through the roof and structural stability became questionable. Interior units were able to hold the fire until Mutual Aid ladder trucks were set up. An exterior attack was then made with firefighters protecting the exposure 4 building (which was attatched to the main fire building) with lines positioned in that structure. Aerial master streams were placed in service by Chester and South Blooming Grove ladders (Monroe T538 was out of service during time of fire). Assisting at the scene were Harriman, Woodbury, Chester, Lakeside, and Salisbury Mills. Goshen(1 Truck) and Warwick(1 Engine) were on standby in Monroe's Station 1. Additional agencies assisting were Kiryas Joel Ambulance, Red Cross, and New York State Police. Fire Investigation was conducted by Orange County Car 6. Monroe Units were back in service at 3:10 pm.
