Arson Fires Village of Monroe

On Saturday morning, September 20th, at approximately 1:23 AM, the Monroe Fire Dept. was dispatched to a reported dumpster fire behind the Rite Aid store on Rt. 17m. Members responded with Engine 543 and quickly extinguished the fire. Shortly after returning to the Station 1, the Monroe Fire Dept. was dispatched to two additional fires. The first one was a car fire behind the Rally Motors Service building and 17m, and the second was another dumpster fire behind the Shoprite Shopping center. Upon returning from the dumpster fire behind Shoprite, the Monroe Fire Dept. was dispatched to a dumpster fire behind Federal Plaza. Due to the obvious suspicious nature of the fires, Monroe Police Department investigators and Orange County Fire Investigators were requested to assist at the scene. Units were back in service by 4:10 AM and an arrest was made several days later.
