On Wednesday, December 29th at approximately 10:00 AM, the Monroe Fire Dept. was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 13 Berdichev Dr. in the Village of Kiryas Joel. Upon arrival, Lieutenant Vini Tankasali established Command and advised units of a working structure fire at the KJ Boys School. The fire involving one of the dormitory rooms had already self-vented out the front window and was threating to the main hallway. First arriving unit Truck 538 began an interior attack while Engine 537 laid supply line in from a nearby hydrant. Interior crews were able to knock the fire down quickly and confined the fire to the room of origin. Due to the heavy smoke condition in the large 2 story structure, Monroe Command requested one Engine to the scene from Woodbury FD to assist in ventilation. Harriman FD was on standby in Monroe Station 1. Monroe FD was also assisted by KJ Ambulance, NY State Police, and Orange County OC-1 and OC-6. Units were back in service by 12 PM.
