On Monday, April 14th, the Monroe Fire Dept. was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Carter Ln. in the
Village of Kiryas Joel. Upon arrival, Chief Pat Kasch established Command and advised units of a working fire in
and Occupied Multi-Family dwelling. The building was an apartment complex housing approximately 10 apartments
and had heavy fire coming from several apartments. Trees which were located between the fire building and the main
roadway caused firefighters to lose valuable time. The trees had to be cut before Monroe's Truck 538 was able to access
the building. The fire had a strong hold on the building prior to Monroe Units arriving on scene and firefighters were
further hampered by structural failure in the building. Ultimately, the fire
was controlled by utlizing Monroe, Chester, and Goshen's Aerial units due to the heavy fire and instability of the building.
Monroe Command requested mutual aid from Harriman, Woodbury, Lakeside, South Blooming Grove, Chester, Tuxedo, and Goshen Fire Departments. Monroe FD was also
assisted by Kiryas Joel Ambulance, Orange County Fire Investigation Unit, and State Police.
