On Tuesday February 29th at approximately 5:57 PM, the Monroe Fire Dept. was dispatched to a reported "fire in the woods" in the area of High St. and Crotty Ct, Village of Monroe. First arriving Chief advised units of a working fire in an abandoned building deep in the woods. Access to the fire was not readily apparent, but an unused dirt road off Owen Dr was located. Firefighters had to cut down numerous trees to allow for apparatus to reach the fire. The fire was quickly knocked down once apparatus were on scene, and units were back in service by 7:30 PM. Harriman FD was on standby for Monroe in their quarters.
