6/4/03 Hazardous Materials Incident - Monroe Town Hall

On Wednesday June 4, 2003 at approximately 3:30PM, the Monroe Fire Dept. was notified of a possible Hazardous Materials incident at the Monroe Town Hall. The report was for a suspicous substance (possibly Anthrax) leaking from a package delivered to the Town Hall. Monroe FD worked with Monroe PD and Monroe EMS to setup a quarantine area, cordoned off the area, and requested the Orange County Hazmat Team to the scene. Monroe FD assisted the Hazmat team with a FAST Team, decontamination area, and equipment support. Orange County Hazmat Team Members entered the building in chemical protection suits and found that the substance was non-hazardous. Harriman FD provided 1 Engine and Rescue for Standby coverage in Monroe and Rockland County Hazmat Team provided Standby coverage for Orange County Hazmat Team.
