Fumes from the nearby chemical plant Nepera sent thousands of students home from school and kept Monroe and Woodbury firefighters busy Friday. The early dismissal of the Monroe-Woodbury School District was prompted by numerous students and faculty reporting illness due to the fumes. Woodbury Fire Dept. responded to the scene and requested the Orange County Hazmat Team and Monroe Fire Dept. to assist at the scene. Special monitoring teams were called in to test the air in the High School.
