On Wednesday, May 14th, the Monroe Fire Dept. was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Mountain Rd. in the
Village of Kiryas Joel. Upon arrival, Asst. Chief Jeff Mahran established Command and advised units of a working fire in
the old Jehovah Witness Hall. The building involved in fire was used at one time as a meeting hall, but was recently sold
and has since been abandoned. The building, measuring approximately 400'long by 200'wide, contains 2 Auditoriums, several
small rooms, and a Cafeteria. Due to the building being located in an area with only 1 hydrant approximately 1750' away,
Assistant Chief Mahran requested extensive Mutual Aid for Tankers to the scene. The fire was knocked down once units were
able to locate and isolate the main body of fire. Monroe Command requested mutual aid from Harriman, Woodbury, Lakeside,
South Blooming Grove, Chester, Tuxedo, Salisbury Mills, Washingtonville and Goshen Fire Departments. Monroe FD was also
assisted by Kiryas Joel Ambulance, Orange County Fire Investigation Unit, and State Police.
