Old Mansion Rd. Structure Fire

On Thursday July 8,1999 at approximately 1:30 PM, the Monroe Fire Dept. was dispatched Mutual Aid to a Structure Fire on Old Mansion Rd. (South Blooming Grove Fire District). Monroe responded with 2 Engines initially, and Tower Ladder 538 was requested shortly after. First arriving units encountered a large 2 story wooden structure heavily involved in fire. Working with South Blooming Grove Fire Dept. an aggressive interior attack was made, but crews were forced out when the second floor ceiling collapsed on several firefighters and fire broke through the roof. Monroe's pumper/tanker E537 was the first Monroe apparatus on scene and began supplying SBGFD's attack engine. Monroe Engine 543 then laid in from E537 to the rear of the building where the fire had spread to a garage. Due to the lack of water in the area, units were sent to draft out of a nearby lake and portable ponds were setup for a tanker dropsite. Engine 537 drafted out of the portable ponds and supplied numerous apparatus and handlines. Additional Mutual Aid was requested to the scene from Chester, Salisbury Mills, Harriman, Lakeside, Washingtonville, and Goshen for either manpower or water supply. Monroe's district was covered by Harriman FD and Lakeside FD.
