HAZMAT Shared Textiles

On Monday, October 16th at approximately 2:24 pm, the Monroe Fire Dept. was dispatched to a reported 'chemical fire' at Shared Textiles on Spring St. in the Village of Monroe. First arriving officer Asst. Chief Walt Bieber advised units of a confirmed Hazardous Materials incident with several victims. Upon arrival, Chief Terracino established command and requested EMS and the Orange County HAZMAT Scene. Monroe EMS transported several patients to the hospital complaining of respiratory problems. Orange County HAZMAT team members entered the hotzone to neutralize the chemicals. Monroe FD was assisted on scene by Monroe EMS, Monroe PD, Chester EMS, Harriman FD, Lakeside FD, Orange County HAZMAT, and Woodbury FD was on standby. Units remained on scene until 10:30pm. NOTE: This incident represented the first Orange County response for the County Hazmat Team's new KME Hazmat unit. The unit was placed in service several days prior to this incident.
