On Tuesday, March 2nd, at approximately 3:30PM, the Monroe Fire Dept.
was dispatched to a reported propane tank leaking on Sunset Heights in the Village of
Monroe. Monroe Duty Chief John Karl was first to arrive on scene and found
a 1000 gallon leaking propane tank which had fallen on its side. Duty Chief
Karl requesting Orange County Hazmat Team to the scene to assist with the situation.
Orange County Hazmat Team work to slow the leak and Suburban Propane (private propane service company)
responded to the scene to stop the leak completely. Monroe was also assisted by Harriman FD (tanker to the scene),
Lakeside FD (tanker standby) and Woodbury FD (1 engine standby Monroe's Station 1).
