Structure Fire Amy Todt Dr.

On Saturday, March 13th, Monroe FD personnel were in the process of taking Engine 543 out of service for repairs when they were alerted to a reported Dryer Fire on Lisa Ln. in the Village of Monroe. Due to the quick response, personnel were able to confine the fire to the dryer and prevented any damage to the house itself. Upon returning to Station 1, Monroe FD members continued taking Engine 543 out of service and completed the detail at approximately 12PM.

Monroe Firefighters were enjoying lunch after the work detail when at approximately 1PM they were dispatched to a reported Structure Fire on Amy Todt Dr. in the Village of Monroe. Responding personnel were advised en route to the fire that a resident had reported that their garage was on fire. Upon turning onto Pine Tree Rd. (approximately 3/4's of a mile from the fire), 1st Assistant Chief Vini Tankasali advised units of smoke showing from the area. Within 1 minute, Chief Jeffrey J. Mahran arrived on scene and confirmed a working Structure Fire. Chief Mahran advised incoming units of heavy fire in a 2 car detached garage approximately 20 feet away from the residence. In addition to two vehicles in the garage, other hazards included lightweight truss roof, propane tanks, acetylene tanks, and a vehicle lift (seen in many service garages). Due to high winds at the time of the fire, the fire began exposing onto the residential building. Monroe firefighters quickly attacked the fire utilizing a 2 1/2" and an 1 3/4" line (exposure control) and were able to limit damage to melted siding on the residential building. Monroe Units were back in service by approximately 3PM.

Monroe was assisted at the scene by Monroe PD, Monroe EMS, Woodbury FD (FAST Team), and Orange County Fire Investigators. Harriman FD provided one engine standby in Monroe's Station 1.
