Stropkov Ct.

On October 13, 1997, at approximately 0300hrs. the Monroe Fire Dept. was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Stropkov Ct. in the Village of Kiryas Joel. Upon arrival Monroe Command advised responding units of a working structure fire. Two 3-Story wood frame occupied multiple family dwellings were heavily involved. The fire had begun in a 'succah' (semi-enclosed porch area used for religous practices during Orthodox Jewish Holidays) and rapidly spread to the next building which was in close proximity. Due to the large amount of fire, Monroe's Tower Ladder was immediately put into operation. Ladders from Blooming Grove and Woodbury responded to the scene as Chester provided a ladder and engine to stand by. Additional units from Harriman and Lakeside were called to set up a draft out of a nearby pond for augmenting the water supply.

This picture taken from the platform of the Tower shows the original fire building. Fire began in one of the lower porch areas, quickly spread upward and inward, and then to the next building.
